The South Korean company will supply components for Hyundai and Kia, revitalizing Macon County’s economy.
In a move that promises to boost local employment and reaffirm Alabama’s growing role in the U.S. auto industry, South Korean auto supplier Samkwang has announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Tuskegee. The plant will produce injection-molded, painted, and assembled components for Hyundai and Kia vehicles—two major players in the region’s industrial landscape.
The new site will occupy a 168,000-square-foot facility—Building 100—within Real Park, a sprawling 6.8 million square-foot industrial complex located along Interstate 85 in Macon County. Strategically positioned between Kia’s West Point plant in Georgia and Hyundai’s manufacturing hub in Montgomery, the location is expected to streamline logistics and supply chains for both automakers.
According to the company, the facility will generate “hundreds of new jobs,” though no exact figure has yet been released. For a county that has long sought to attract sustained industrial investment, the announcement marks a significant milestone.
“Samkwang USA’s investment will be an important step in creating jobs and revitalizing the local economy in Macon County,” said Lewis Maxwell, Macon County Commissioner. “It will strengthen our position as the manufacturing center of Alabama.”
Samkwang’s operations span multiple continents, with active facilities in South Korea, Vietnam, India, Mexico, and the United States. The Tuskegee expansion reflects the company’s continued commitment to servicing the North American automotive market from within.
While the timeline for plant construction and hiring has not been disclosed, regional officials and industry observers see the move as a strong indicator of Alabama’s continued draw for global manufacturers.
